Topshop Lipsticks Review

Topshop Lipsticks Review

I love Topshop lipsticks, I've read some reviews that say the quality is just as good as MAC, minus the price. They have a lovely range of shades that are unique, bold and colourful (not as big as MAC’s though).  If your looking for some statement colours then Topshop has a nice range that you can choose from to suit any skin tone/shade. What I like about Topshop lippies are that they are colourful, fun and have a perfect ‘medium shade’ range meaning are great for golden/tan complexions and darker shades. They have a few paler shades, but even the nudes and corals can really work on Asian skin tones because they are not too milky or pale. I haven’t dared to use their darker shades, simply because I like colours I can wear at work and out and about, but I think the good thing about these lipsticks are they are warm toned rather than cool so they cater for warmer complexions really well.

How to use:
I always use a non greasy lip balm before applying bolder colours otherwise they can seep into the crack on your lips and look like paint- not nice!

Oh La La
A soft vibrant peachy - pink coral shade. I love this shade, as you can see in the pic I’ve used quite a bit of it! It brightens up my complexion and you can build up the colour as it’s very pigmented. It’s lovely for a summery glowy look, or if your skins looking dull and you need something on your face to pop!

Ditsy
A pinky - red colour. Can look like a natural lip tint if used lightly, or a bolder colour if layered on. It’s a lovely colour, if your too shy of red but want to be abit daring and wear a bolder shade then this is a good place to start as it's like a muted down reddish-pink.

Charmed
They only had a few of these lipsticks in this packaging when it first came out, now I think it's got the usual black and white packaging. Its a nice orange colour thats not too orange and harsh so you won't look neon, the lipstick is moisturising so it can go on sheer or you can build it up for a brighter bolder look. I think it's a lovely colour for the summer.

Secretary
I got this shade because I was looking for an everyday nude/natural shade. The other nude shades at Topshop seemed more cool toned and too light for my skin tone. This shade is more suitable for medium tones but I felt it doesn't suit my complexion. If you have a lighter complexion this would be a nice warm nude and it would probably look nicer on darker complexions as a natural looking pop of colour to the lips too. On my lips I feel I would have to blend this in with another lipstick or put a lipgloss on top as it doesn't do anything for me. It looks like a warm nudey peachy-brown in the lipstick but on the lips it looks abit taupey-brown on me, so not the usual colour I would go for. I think nude shades like this probably look best when you have smokey dark eyes and want nude lips, but I normally wear natural looking light make up so this shade in particular would just wash out my complexion and make it look rather dull. I also felt as it was a warm brown shade it brought out the red tones in my skin rather than the golden look which I usually go for!

While the consistency is perfect, its not chalky or patchy, the shade just didn't do it for me...maybe I'm not doing the right makeup to compliment this lippy, but it's not a colour that I can just pop on and walk out with on it's own, it doesn't do much for me.

Edit: 29/10/2015 - tried this colour again, yes I do need a full face of makeup to pull this lippy off. I used a browny toned lip liner first, and applied this on top. Also had darker eye makeup as it's autumn now, and it did actually complete the whole look. It's not my favourite shade but its workable!

Disco
I looovee this colour, its the perfect berry - blackcurrent shade and it's not too dark. Usually I stay clear of these shades, but I picked it up because I wanted something different. Usually with these dark shades it reminds me of mums and aunties, they love their plums and berries lol, but this shade is vibrant and fun, its not a dull or a muted berry shade which can make the complexion  look dull, it's quite vibrant and looks lovely with a berry/pink blush and a black liner. This shade is more on the purple side than maroon or plummy. I love the fact this looks nice applied lightly for a tint of colour to the lips or layered on  for a more stronger bolder look.

I was looking for the perfect pink lippie, that wasn't too neon, electric or 'hot pink', but bright enough for a fun vibrant look.

This shade is the perfect matte pink which isn't too cool or blue toned (which always is the case when I'm looking for pinks!)  It's perfect for warm skin tones like most of their shades. It is a bright and vibrant shade but soft at the same time so doesn't look to harsh against the skin (I brought one of Barry M's lippies and that was so neon and electric pink so needed a replacement!)

This shade I would say is the perfect Fushcia pink for day time, its soft and not too neon looking. it compliment's warm skin tones perfectly, I think even lighter skin tones would look nice with this as it's not too harsh and bright on the eye. It doesn't look that Fuschia in the swatch but on the lips it settles to a nice bright pink.

Another lipstick to add to my collection! I think this is one of their new shades as I haven't seen it before.
It looks like a pink-peach shade in the tube. However on the lips and swatched on the hand its more of a pink. Its a nice pink, not too cool not too warm. It's not neon or too vibrant but does have a nice pop of colour that adds colour to the face! It is a light to medium shade, if your medium-tanned, it could look a bit light for you, unless you want a light shade on the lips.

My Final Thought:
If these ran out any time soon I’d go out and buy another one without a doubt. The price is like a high end drugstore lippy at £8, and the quality is excellent, so I would definitely get these again. Bright colours can sometimes look cheap and bit scary on the lips, especially orange shades, but these condition the lips well and wear nicely, you can go for a sheer soft look or bold it up and be daring.

The colours are fun, bright, cute and playful and I'm totally obsessed with them!

I love Topshop Lippies :) :) :) !!!
